How do I remove a wiper mark from the windshield ?

The ugly squeal of the wiper blades is irritating, but it can also mean that the glass may be damaged. This creates small scratches all over the area covered by the wiper. In this case, you need to know how to remove scratches from the wipers.

What are the correct methods for removing wiper marks ?

Do not use just any cloth to wipe the mark from the glass, as some heavy duty cloths have fibres that can cause scratches. Instead, use a lint-free microfiber cloth to clean the windshield. Microfibre is washable, super absorbent and does not leave streaks, leaving the glass bright and clean.

Removing wiper scratches with toothpaste: First, dry the glass with a lint-free cloth. Then apply a little toothpaste to a soft cloth. Then rub the cloth over the scratch in a circular motion for 30 to 40 seconds. Finally, wipe off the toothpaste with a damp cloth and use the lint-free cloth to dry the area again. You can also try Whiting powder (calcium carbonate) by reading this page.

For a deeper scratch, consult a professional at one of our 1,400 Glassdrive centres. They will be able to tell you immediately if the mark is removable.

How to avoid wiper marks ?

Pay the same attention to the windshield washer as you do to other fluids in your car. Just as you make sure the coolant or oil level is correct, do the same with the washer. Windshield washer fluid acts as a lubricant to make the wipers move more smoothly on the glass.

Replace the wiper blades once a year

If your wipers have not been replaced for a long time, this can be a cause for concern. The rubber on the blades suffers from the heat of summer and the cold of winter and can not fit the curve of the windshield properly. The wiper arm can also rub, which will cause scratches on the glass surface when you operate the wipers. All our Glassdrive centres offer a range of wipers suitable for all vehicles and will provide replacement.

Don't use dry wipers to avoid scratches !

When it's not raining, don't turn on the wipers. Even if your windshield is covered in dust and you are tempted to clean it with the wipers, try not to do so. If you absolutely must use the wipers on a dry, sunny day, make sure you run the wiper fluid first to protect your car's windshield from scratches.
