How to demist the windshield ?
There are a number of ways to demist your windshield. Fogging results from the condensation of water contained in the air in the form of steam on a cold surface. It is therefore a matter of heating this surface, in this case the windshield, with a blast of warm air. The most common way to do this is to use ventilation with a higher temperature than outside. You can concentrate the blast of ventilation on the windscreen by closing the vents furthest away.
Most vehicles also have a very effective demisting function that blows a lot of air onto the windschield at once. Note that the action of the air blast is as important, or more so, than that of the heat. It is therefore not necessary to choose an extremely high temperature. A few degrees warmer than outside is enough. And don't forget your windshield, which may not like the temperature rising too quickly and cracking.
How can I prevent my windscreen from fogging up ?
Fogging of the windscreen can be avoided by following a few rules. Start by removing wet objects in your car such as umbrellas, wet jackets or carpets. Water on these objects in your car will cause the windscreen to fog up once the car is closed.
In addition to humidity, let the mechanic check that your car is waterproof on the one hand, but also capable of being well ventilated. A clogged pollen filter prevents the car from being properly ventilated and will cause the car to fog up. The garage owner can also check the seals on the doors or a sunroof. Damaged seals can cause leaks in your car.
How can I clean the windshield without leaving a trace?
There is nothing more important than keeping your glazing clean. To do this, remove the bulk of the dirt on the galzing from the outside by rinsing with soapy water and a sponge. Use a sponge only for cleaning your car and rinse it thoroughly after use to prevent tiny grit from scratching the windshield.
Other means are necessary if the dirt is very oily. Take household alcohol or acetone and spray it onto a microfibre cloth. Rub it in until the windshield glass is completely smooth. Make sure that it does not spill onto the bodywork, as the cleaning products could damage the varnish.
What should I avoid doing?
To defrost the windshield more quickly, drivers who are often in a hurry tend to pour hot water on it. However, the thermal shock can crack or shatter your windshield. In addition, the water poured onto the windshield may freeze, making the situation even worse.
And using the heater is a good idea, but it is not necessary to turn it on full blast. It will take some time and, in addition, it will require more consumption.
