How to clean a windshield ?
Nothing beats a perfectly clean windshield; it improves vision, especially against the light, and it looks better too! The best way to get a clean windscreen is to use car window cleaners. Remember to apply these with a good microfiber towel. When cleaning the glass, inside or out, be sure to use one side of the towel for the actual cleaning and the other side to buff the glass to remove any residue.
How do I clean the inside windshield properly ?
If grease and dirt are blocking your view, it's time to clean your windshield. How to do it yourself:
- Mix a bowl of warm water with a teaspoon of washing-up liquid and add a few drops of vinegar.
- Prepare two microfiber towels. Soak one in the bowl of cleaning solution and make sure the other is clean and dry. Tip: Use a spray bottle for better distribution of the solution.
- Squeeze out the excess water from the soaked microfibre cloth and wipe the inside of the car windshield. Once you have thoroughly washed the inside, dry the surface with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Proceed in the same way for the backlite and sidelite.
However, if you don't have the time to do all this, you can always have your windshield cleaned by a professional.
How do I remove a wiper mark from my windshield ?
If your wipers are leaving marks on your windshield, they are no longer wiping properly. The rubber blade may be damaged and it is necessary to organise their replacement. All our Glassdrive centres are stocked with Valeo wipers at short notice, so ask them for advice.
While you wait for them to be replaced, here are some tips for removing scratches left by wipers:
- You can use a white clay stone. This is an environmentally friendly product that will polish the surface of your window.
- Another effective product is baking soda. Scrub the marks by putting a little baking soda on a wet sponge. Use a clean, and to dry use a microfiber cloth.
- Some people use cigarette ash. Put it in the hollow of a damp cloth or newspaper and make circular movements on the surface to be treated. This is not our preferred solution as we don't want to encourage you to smoke!
Caution! Scratches on the windshield are not considered "broken glass". If you are considering replacing your windshield because of the scratches, please note that the glass breakage warranty will not cover this type of replacement.
