How can I prevent the windshield from fogging up ?

To prevent your windshield from fogging up, we advise you to deactivate the air recirculation function in the cabin. The more air is recirculated in the cabin, the more humid the cabin becomes, due to the water vapour exhaled by the driver and passengers. And when the water vapour comes into contact with a cold part of the car, especially the glazing parts, the water condenses and fogs up. When the air recirculation function is not activated, outside air ventilates the passenger compartment. This air can be colder, but less humid, and therefore less likely to fog up.

Is the windshield sensitive to temperature changes ?

Thermal shocks, i.e. a high temperature amplitude in a very short time, should be avoided at all costs. The windshield expands in the heat and contracts in the cold. The mechanical effect of an impact can cause it to crack and the windshield will have to be replaced.

Wherever possible, park your vehicle in a garage, or under a covered shelter, so that it remains at a more constant temperature than outdoors. And set the temperature of the vehicle gradually, especially when the air is blown directly onto the windscreen. In winter, don't turn your heater up to full blast; 20-21° is a good compromise for warming up the cabin, melting ice or removing mist without putting the windshield at too much risk. In summer, don't turn your air conditioning on full blast either; a few degrees less than outside will be enough to keep you comfortable. Also avoid parking your car in the sun to reduce the risk of cracking. Park as much as possible in the shade, and if this is not possible, use a sunshade.

What to do if your windshield cracks ?

As soon as an impact or a crack appears on your windshield, consider having it checked by a professional in one of our Glassdrive centres. They will be able to tell you whether the damage can be repaired or whether the glass needs to be replaced. In any case, don't wait, because an impact or a small crack can quickly turn into an irreparable crack. Repairing a cracked windshield is better than replacing it. The latter can be costly, takes longer and generates more waste to be recycled.
