Circular economy
Learn about Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and how Glassdrive is committed to sustainability. Our aim is to recycle 100% of glass waste and reduce our carbon footprint.
What is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?
Life Cycle Assessment is a standardized evaluation method for carrying out a multi-criteria, multi-stage environmental assessment of a system or product over its entire life cycle. Based on the international standard ISO 14025.
Responding to new challenges of mobility, the glazing supplied to car manufacturers is the result of all innovation capabilities and understanding of environmental responsibility at every stage of the value chain.
As part of our sustainable development approach, the identification of our main impacts allowed us defining our priority action levers.
In collaboration with our partners, we carried out a LCA of the glazing products we are installing in our fitting stations in 2022.
Act to reintroduce 100% of broken glass into glass production
In 2021, we started measuring the carbon footprint of our activity including our supply chain. By distinguishing the most carbon emitting sources, we efficiently target the action levers to reduce our impact on the environment: develop circular economy.
Our 1,752 Glassdrive fitting stations are here to help the drivers experiencing glazing damage, fix it up, and collect damaged glazing pieces.
So, with a strong willing of recycling materials, we aim at completing the loop, enabling broken glass to become new glass.
That’s our mission as experts of glass and as we act from sand to hand.
As the first link in the recycling chain, to ensure that the glazing is properly sorted, and we choose the most reliable and competent partners to clean and process it to recover its various components.
All the plastic packaging that can be reused or recycled, not to mention the treatment of hazardous waste such as glue and primer.
Our aim is to make the most of all our waste, which is a real resource, and to ensure that 100% of our glass waste is sorted, collected, and recycled into glass products, hand in hand with our partners.
Did you know?
The pieces of broken glass, called cullet, are reintroduced into a glass furnace, save up to 300 kg of CO2 per ton reintroduced and 850 kg of sand.
The cullet from automotive glazing can become, once again flat glass, be transformed into glass wool used for building insulation, or into hollow glass for bottles.
Glass recycling is essential, a simple act of sorting and recycling, we are promoting a circular and less carbon-intensive economy.
We aim to have 100% of glass waste collected by service providers and properly recycled into glass products.
We also pay particular attention to sorting hazardous waste, which is recycled in specialized channels for 100% of our fitting stations.
In the same spirit of waste reduction, we favor windshield suppliers committed to reduce the amount of packaging and we set up a goal of 100% of recovering packaging by 2023.
Glassdrive on the road to circular economy
FLAT GLASS
We favor suppliers using flat glass with high rate of recycled content as it is the main lever to reduce windshield carbon footprint.
WINDSHIELD PRODUCTION
We favor local suppliers with performant and low carbon factories.
TRANSPORTATION
Our logistics partners are geared to opt for cleaner vehicle fleets
DISTRIBUTION
Our partner’s central warehouse produces its own energy from renewable sources using a wind turbine.
TRANSPORTATION
Last mile delivery is optimised and we favor low carbon logistics.
GLASSDRIVE FITTING STATIONS
We sort our waste to have a minimum of four waste streams: glass products, chemicals, plastics and cardboard and are managed by our partners.
